I didn’t even know you could get this as a wagon let alone with wood paneling! Are these rare?

They weren’t back in the olden days. Now I find it hard to believe that there is still one in the snow that hasn’t rusted into oblivion.

Go back in time to around 1987 and these were a common sight - even not too uncommon as a woody. I am pretty sure I see a Ciera/Cutlass Cruiser woody in my area now and then, and a late run Century wagon, not a woody.

Funny, I just saw one of these on Saturday. The rear facing seats were even occupied at the time.

Not rare in the late 80's early 90's but they were pretty shit so not many survived.

My grandfather had that exact car. It was my grandmother’s last car before she passed. When she died he sold it. Same green with a 3.0 or 3.3 liter version of the Buick 90 degree v6

A friend’s folks had one of those growing up in that purplish burgundy color they had. Rode around in that reverse facing back seat several times - it makes you sick because the rear glass is curved and distorts everything...

Back in 1993 when my parents were new car shopping they were looking at one of these, a Celebrity wagon, or an Astro.

Ended up with the Astro.

My mom had one when I was a kid. Maroon with wood, and maroon vinyl interior. It got replaced by a green 95 Sable Wagon.

It was one of the many cars that convinced younger me that American cars were lame cars for boring people.

Much of my childhood was spent in those rear facing seats. Me and my brother always took them before our sisters could.

I was always jealous of kids who had parents with a wagon. My parents refused to even buy a sedan. We were a strictly two-door family.

The rear facing sears really were the business. I spent a lot of time just staring at the car behind us looking st little design details. Plus it felt like I was a mile from my parents.

My neighbors had I think Chevy version of that when I was in middle school or so. Same exact color and wood. Of course we had a light yellow 87 Voyager with wood at the time.

Like others said they used to be common. When I was a kid they were everywhere. They haven’t been for some time now. Two things did them in. One was rust. But more importantly automotive design and American tastes changes so much so quickly in the 90’s. There was the rise of the minivan and SUV, safety features like ABS and airbags became standard, fuel injection took over, and styling became much less boxy across the board. Even though many of these things were added into facelifts of 80’s designs, it basically sent the resale value of late 80’s American cars to below scrap level by the mid-late 90’s. Many of them just got sent to the junkyard when they developed fixable problems because they weren’t worth anything and the owners were looking for excuses to get into something more modern. My parents had a ‘86 Chevy Celebrity - another A-body platform car like the Century you posted. We were only able to get $500 for it with under 100k miles in the mid 90’s.
